The Karnataka State Government on Thursday, July 17, blamed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the unfortunate stampede that happened at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on June 4. The IPL franchise won the IPL title on June 3 and it was followed by a massive celebration on the very next day.
Fans gathered at the decorated stadium in the city to celebrate the franchise winning their very first IPL title in 18 years. However, there were security concerns and lack of proper medical facilities as well that led to this incident.
The state government held the franchise RCB, DNA Entertainment Networks, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) responsible for the sequence of events that happened.

Viral Video Shows Huge Gathering Outside Chinnaswamy Stadium
Meanwhile, a video featuring Virat Kohli is making the rounds on social media. The video shows the huge gathering outside the stadium welcoming the RCB team bus. The crowd gathered in huge numbers, impossible for the security officials present there to take control of the situation.
On June 4, at 8:55 AM, RCB shared Kohli's video message celebrating with Bengaluru fans, encouraging followers to join the celebrations, as they announced a victory parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The caption in the video read as "intends to celebrate this victory with the people of Bengaluru and RCB fans on 04.06.2025 after the team returns to Bengaluru”. The franchise later deleted the video after the incident that happened.
Another post at 3:14 PM from RCB’s X handle was about fans being given free passes to enter the stadium to join the celebrations with RCB, with even the timing of the parade mentioned. The post mentioned that the tickets were available on shop.royalchallengers.com. The information was passed on in the afternoon and before that, no such information was available on RCB’s social media portals. The report presented by the state government said that, RCB went on with the celebrations despite being warned about security arrangements and after the “free pass” announcement, more fans came in and the situation became out of control.
