Mithun Manhas, a well-known figure in Delhi’s domestic cricket circuit, is now the frontrunner for the BCCI’s top post — as confirmed by Vice President Rajiv Shukla.
Mithun Manhas Likely to Become BCCI President, Backed by Top Brass
The former CSK and Delhi state team captain has held multiple administrative positions in the past, most notably as Director of Operations with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. Recent reports claim the 45-year-old is all set to become the next BCCI President, with strong backing from Devajit Saikia and Rajiv Shukla, both of whom are also expected to retain their current roles in the new term.
"I have come to file a nomination. A panel is ready, with Mithun Manhas for the post of President, me for Vice President, Devajit Saikia for Secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia for Joint Secretary, and Raghuram Bhatt for Treasurer.
Nominations have also been filed for the names decided for the Governing Council. So, a new body is being formed for the next tenure. Good luck to all,"
said Rajiv Shukla after filing nominations.
As it stands, Mithun Manhas is set to be elected unopposed, with the future looking bright for the former Delhi skipper. However, a source inside the BCCI revealed that his appointment wasn’t straightforward.
"It wasn’t an easy decision for the BCCI top brass. All technicalities around Manhas were carefully reviewed, and legal opinion was sought.
The meeting lasted until almost midnight. Eventually, the board found a way to have a cricketer as president," a BCCI source told TOI.
Former CSK batter Mithun Manhas had a long and consistent domestic career. He played 157 First-Class, 130 List A, and 55 IPL matches between 1997-98 and 2016-17. In the IPL, he represented Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, and the now-defunct Pune Warriors.
