Indian batter Tilak Varma has scored a century on his county debut for Hampshire against Essex on the third day of the game. His knock has helped Hampshire take the lead on day 3 of the match.
Tilak scored his hundred off 241 deliveries hitting 11 fours and three sixes. In the process, he first added a stand of 68 runs with his skipper Ben Brown (42 runs off 68 balls) and then added another stand of 133 runs with Liam Dawson (82 runs off 140 balls).
Incidentally, Tilak Varma was dismissed immediately after he got to his hundred. He was dismissed by South African skipper Simon Harmer and was taken by his fellow South African Dean Elgar.

Tilak Varma Makes A Statement At Hampshire
Essex scored 296 runs in their first innings and Hampshire has already taken the lead. Tilak walked out to bat with his side having lost two wickets just for 32 runs and then got to his century 239 balls under pressure.
Tilak got his opportunity to play for Hampshire despite having a very young first-class career. He has played just 18 matches in first-class. He has also played for India A in the Duleep Trophy and two matches against England Lions in early 2024. In his brief career, he has already amassed over 1200 runs with five centuries and four fifties at an average of 50.16.

Tilak Varma Signed For Two County Matches
Previously, his stint with Hampshire was confirmed by Hampshire's Director of Cricket, Giles White, who welcomed him into the club.
"It's fantastic to have Tilak available for the next four County Championship matches,. He's an exciting talent who has already made a big impact on the international stage and in the IPL, and we look forward to seeing what he can do for Hampshire this summer" Giles White, Director of Cricket, said.
After the ongoing match against Essex, Tilak Varma will play another county game for Hampshire against Worcestershire from June 29 to July 2.
