Indian seamer Mohammed Siraj, an ardent football fan, paid a heartfelt tribute to Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who recently died in a car crash in Spain.
Siraj’s Emotional Tribute to Diogo Jota
Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were heading to a ferry in Spain when their Lamborghini lost control and caught fire. The tragic accident happened shortly after midnight on Thursday.
In an emotional moment on Day 2 of the 3rd Test at Lord’s, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj dismissed the well-settled Jamie Smith for 51, caught by Dhruv Jurel. This was a crucial wicket, breaking a key partnership and giving India a breakthrough.

Though the Indian camp looked happy, Siraj gave a tribute to the late Diogo Jota by raising his arms and folding his hands a gesture seen as an emotional homage, which fans joined in to honor the Portuguese forward.
Notably, Mohammed Siraj had a quiet first innings, picking up two wickets for 85 runs. His two wickets came on Day 2—first the important breakthrough of Jamie Smith for 51, then dismissing Brydon Carse for 56, which was England’s last wicket. Despite India’s efforts with the ball, England posted a formidable total of 387 runs in the first innings.

India’s Early Struggles, and the Fightback at Lord’s
In reply, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal inside three overs, courtesy of returning Jofra Archer, who energized the crowd at Lord’s. After the early wicket, KL Rahul and Karun Nair fought back, adding 61 runs for the second-wicket partnership before England skipper Ben Stokes dismissed Karun Nair for 41, as Nair again failed to convert his good start.
Currently, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul are at the crease as Day 2 heads into the final session at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
