Punjab Kings (PBKS) will cross swords with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 1.
Punjab will be eager to bounce back after a humbling loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Qualifier 1. Led by Shreyas Iyer, Punjab have been one of the most well-rounded teams this season.
However, cracks appeared in their batting line-up in the previous game. Against RCB in Mullanpur, the Kings were skittled out for just 101 runs, and the target was chased down in only 10 overs. That loss has served as a wake-up call.
The key now for Punjab is to learn from that collapse. Another poor batting performance would end their campaign. Much will depend on Prabhsimran Singh, their top run-scorer with 517 runs, and Arshdeep Singh, who leads their wicket charts with 18 scalps.
Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, have timed their run perfectly. In the Eliminator versus Gujarat Titans (GT), they posted 228 runs after choosing to bat first, with Rohit Sharma anchoring the innings with a fluent 81 runs off 50 balls. Their bowlers then kept GT to 208/6 with Jasprit Bumrah conceding just 27 runs in his four overs and picking up a key wicket of Washington Sundar.
In their last meeting this season, Punjab successfully chased 185 runs against Mumbai, a result that eventually cost MI a spot in the top two and gave PBKS a psychological boost.
