Since Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket on May 7, the BCCI has been looking for options to name India's next Test skipper.
Several former Indian cricketers have come up with different names. While Shubman Gill looks to be the obvious choice, many former Indian cricketers have backed Jasprit Bumrah to be named India's next Test skipper.
Bumrah's experience of leading India previously in Test matches is being seen as one of the major reasons why former cricketers are preferring him over Shubman Gill. They are also of the belief that Gill is yet to cement his place in the Indian Test side.

Jasprit Bumrah Automatic Captaincy Choice - Wasim Jaffer
The latest to share his opinion about India's next Test captain is former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer. Jaffer has picked Bumrah ahead of Gill as his preferred choice as the next India Test captain. He backed Gill to be named as the vice-captain of this Test side.
"I think Bumrah is an automatic captaincy choice, unless he doesn't want the responsibility. He should be the captain with Gill as VC - stepping in whenever Bumrah needs rest. This way Gill could also be groomed without the pressure of being the full time captain," Jaffer wrote on his X handle.
Jasprit Bumrah was the vice-captain in the Test series against Australia Down Under. He led India in two Test matches in Perth and Sydney. India won the Perth Test but lost the Sydney Test, with Rohit not playing in the SCG Test match.
